A charity drive is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort aims to provide aid to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The notable list of musicians featured on Lullaby features a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the benefit event, which successfully generated a considerable total for relief efforts.
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of talented individuals. The single blends a mix of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The group managing the initiative have stated that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the area was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is primarily making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
