The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
