Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
