GOP members in California filed a legal action in federal court this Wednesday, contesting a significant redistricting initiative that has the potential to flip as many as five congressional seats for Democrats.

The plan is a targeted countermeasure to partisan redistricting in the state of Texas, where GOP lawmakers, at the US president’s behest, have carved out a number of new safe Republican districts.
