The respected director, who transformed classical music on television, died at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, in 1931, Burton rose to become one of the industry’s most respected broadcasters, bringing the joy of classical music to the general public.

He also initiated the Young Musician of the Year competition in 1978, a showcase that discovered talents such as violinist Nicola Benedetti.
