Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
