New York Launches Online Platform for Public to Report ICE Images Following Detentions of 4 US Citizens

New York state AG has introduced a fresh digital platform encouraging citizens to submit images and footage of immigration raids throughout the state. This move comes just a day after a high-profile ICE raid disrupted NYC's Chinatown, sparking large-scale outcry.

American Citizens Held During Enforcement Action

A US congressman disclosed during a midweek briefing that four US citizens were taken into custody and held for "nearly 24 hours" following the previous day's operation. Demonstrations occurred in NYC on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

"All New York residents has the right to live without fear," the attorney general stated in a release.

"Anyone who observed and captured ICE activity during the raid, I encourage you to submit that evidence with my office. We are pledged to reviewing these reports and investigating any wrongdoings."

Portal Features

The form includes fields to upload photos and videos of the raid, plus a field to specify location information. Prior to sending, submitters must mark a option that confirms that "authorities could utilize any materials, images, or footage in a public document, such as in a lawsuit or public report."

Details of the Manhattan Operation

The enforcement action, which witnesses say included dozens of ICE personnel, happened in a famous neighborhood of Manhattan where imitation products and other goods are commonly traded en masse – often to visitors.

Footage of the operation reveal several covered and weaponized officers securing and holding a person, and pushing back bystanders. Throngs of locals pursued the officers through the streets. An armored military vehicle was also seen moving along the city streets.

Official Reactions

During a Wednesday press conference featuring the immigrant advocacy group, congressman Dan Goldman, a lawmaker, stated that four US citizens were arrested by immigration for about 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where nationals should be arrested for unjustly." He noted the citizens were let go on the following day with no accusations made.

"The goal is evident here. It is not to take criminals off the street," he said. "This represents a military-style operation to create conflict. It is purely a justification to incite violence for the government to bring in the armed forces to stop unrest that they initiated."

Broad Criticism

Fury over the ICE raid rapidly grew – each of the mayoral candidates criticized the incident, including NY's governor.

"Yet again, the Trump administration chooses oppressive displays that create fear, instead of protection. It has to end," a contender declared.

NYC advocacy organizations voiced concern too.

"Immigration agents raided the neighborhood with military-style vehicles, masked agents and tactical gear to target local sellers attempting to earn income. This operation had no connection to community security and focused completely on frightening communities and neighborhoods," said the leader of a rights organization.

Agency Rules

Agency rules bans the detention of US citizens and the bureau has claimed it does not apprehend American nationals. Nevertheless, independent reporting has discovered that more than 170 citizens have been held against their will by federal agents since the start of the existing leadership.

Recent Pattern

ICE raids have been rising in frequency in NY and nationwide recently.

A mid-October raid in the city center was the first known raid on an refuge facility of the present government. Demonstrations opposing federal operations are ubiquitous including accusations of violence and cruel conditions.

Most recently, a submission submitted by legal entities claimed inadequate care of expectant mothers in detention centers.
