More than 50 Minor Refugee Children Still Missing After Disappearing from Care in Britain

Over 50 lone minor migrants who went missing soon after coming the UK and while under the supervision of the authorities are still missing, based on figures obtained.

Many of the missing children entered in small boats or hidden in the cargo areas of lorries and are believed to have been abducted by traffickers. This region is commonly the place where they arrive.

From 2020 and August 2025, 213 children disappeared from care facilities for this group, with 182 located and 32 still missing.

Nationality Breakdown of Vanished Minors

In each instance, minors from Albania were the most numerous nationality to vanish, accounting for 50% the aggregate from the temporary accommodations, 68, and in excess of one-fourth from the reception centres, 65.

Regulatory Updates and Persistent Problems

In December 2023, following a protracted judicial process relating to unaccompanied minor refugees missing from all temporary accommodations, the procedure of regularly housing children in hotels was ruled unlawful.

Subsequently, officials committed to strengthen security for these children by expanding the use of welcome hubs. After that judicial outcome an additional 44 children have disappeared from these facilities, with 10 yet to be found and 34 found.
